This silver coin belongs to a series that were minted by the English company for use in their territories in South Asia (particularly in the Presidency of Fort William). The Persian engraving on the coin bears the name of the nominal Mughal Emperor at that time, Shah Alam II.
The Persian reads “Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad Shah Alam Sani, Badshah Gazi” - “Shah Alam II, the victorious Emperor, Defender of the Faith, Shadow of the divine favour, put his stamp on the seven climes”
